What's the best way to paint interior doors?

I've heard various opinions. Some say with a brush, others with a roller. If with a roller, wich kind/size?What's the best way to paint interior doors?
The best way depends on the look you're going for.

For instance, traditional 6 panel doors, like you might find in a Colonial style house, are generally brush painted, with all the brush strokes running with the wood grain of each rail, style, and panel, including aligning the strokes with seams and joints. This makes the paint job look like what you would have found in an 100 year old house.

Modern flat panel doors in a contemporary house would be best sprayed or rolled, to avoid any brush strokes giving the door a more contemporary look. Rolling with a standard 1/4 inch nap roller (for very smooth surfaces) will give you the best result, as long as you are using good paint. This is the same kind of roller you use on walls.

Note: Regardless of door/style type, some pro's use a roller to get the paint on fast, then use a brush to get a ';traditional'; brush look, depending on what the customer wants.

The absolute smoothest finish is sprayon, at least 2 coats. Spraying on paint is the thinnest coating of the three applications, with roller and brush being about equal.

The other ';best'; things to do:

1. Remove the door from the opening and lay it flat, painting one side at a time. This will dramatically reduce drips and improve paint evening (paint tends to flow slightly after applying and it does this better when applied to a horizontal surface). Don't forget to paint all four edges.

2. Cover the hinges and door knob with tape (or remove them). Knobs and hinges with paint on them scream ';lack of attention to detail';.

3. Don't buy cheap tools. A very good to best quality brush, a very good to best quality roller handle, and very good quality rollers will improve the quality of the job.

4. Take your time. Most DIY'ers try to work too fast. Pro's work fast because they are practiced. A door is heavily used and noticed. A quality job reflects on you.

5, Don't buy cheap paint, because then you'll end up with more work than you want as you'll need extra coats, or the paint won't even out well.

Good Luck! What's the best way to paint interior doors?
On panel doors the best way is surely to use a paint sprayer. For Flush doors it is pretty easy to roll on, but your prettiest finish will be sprayed on.
Use a water based paint so it smels nice when your painting. A bruch gor groves and tructure and a smale spunge roler for the large areas. Tip: Take a cloth and rub some olive oil on the flor where your working in the sorway. It's a lot easier te clean the floor when youre done. The pant won't stick to the floor. And the oil is easy to remove with a little soapy water.
The correct way is with a brush, with a roller it is hard to get a smooth coat on your door. also you would need a brush anyway to trim the edges and around the knobs and hardware on your door.....why would you want to use both?

I hate to clean rollers anyway, they are so messy.stay with a good brush and you will be pleased with it.
If they are flat and with no detail then sure a roller would work. If there is any detail to the door surface, then use a sprayer. You can rent one or buy one fairly cheaply. Sand lightly between coats. Don't apply more than 2 coats per day. Actually 1 primer coat and 2 finish coats will be fine.

Good luck!
ask an expert or a veteran painter or something.

then let your hands do the painting, because, seriously, i have no clue.
We just had an addition made to our house, and they sprayed the doors outside. They are six-panel doors, so I guess that makes a difference. But I like the fact that there are no brush strokes, just a smooth, consistent finish. It shouldn't be difficult for a do-it-yourselfer.
