Nail polish remover or even laundry detergent and warm water. If your leather seats are ';finished'; - meaning waterproof - then it will work better. Good luck. How do I remover appliance spray paint from leather car seats?
hair spray! i know it sounds really weird but i got paint on my leather barstools and it took it out. you have to apply a lot of pressure. i put olive oil or a leather conditioner on it afterwards so the hairspray doesnt dry it out.

What are the best colors to paint a room to make it look bigger or just better?

Im changing rooms, im taking one that use to be home to an infant baby girl, so the walls are pink! i know i dont want to paint it over with just white.. i want something cool, crazy, yet calm mature. HGTV is not helping, and im tired of watching the freaking channel! What are the best colors to paint a room to make it look bigger or just better?
You could do aqua or a blue teal that looks like ocean/beach. It is cool but not too crazy that you cannot get to bed. Do white trim.

IF you don't want all one wild color, do one wall (like the one your bed is on) in the wild color and then the other 3 walls in a lighter version of that color.

for example, one black wall 3 grey walls OR one red wall, 3 tan walls. What are the best colors to paint a room to make it look bigger or just better?
Light colors make a room look larger. In paint, there really isn't a 'just white'. There are literally hundreds of whites that shade into all other colors. I personally like warm whites that are touched with golds and reds, but if you live in a very hot environment a cool white, touched with greens and blues can have a psychological cooling effect.

Wanting something cool puts you into the blue/green tones, crazy yet calm mature, thats a tough order...lime green would be too crazy, sage wouldn't be crazy enough...what about a very pale seafoam green ? I mean very pale, like an almost white but touched with blue and green. It's retro and sophisticated, but can be crazy too.

Anyway, have fun with it. And if you really aren't sure, do what I did. Pick a color or colors, buy the smallest cans you can, paint a 3x3 section of wall with each of them and live with it for a week or so. That's how I picked my last interior and exterior colors, I rejected a couple before I chose the final color and I'm delighted with the results.
Light colors can do it. Put one color on the opposite walls and one color on the other two, that will be a good start. A large mirror on the wall can also be used to make it look bigger. You can even go so far as to paint angles on the ceiling.
Bigger or brighter, you want to go with a light color. Sage green is nice and so is a buttery yellow--not to pastel or bright though. I vote for sage.
to make a room look larger you need fairly light colours, or possibly one dark feature wall the rest light, always do the ceiling in white as this will make it look higher
In my home decorating experience, yellow is a harsh color on the eyes no matter how light. It has something to do with your pupils/ reaction to the color brightness.....

I prefer warmer, calm colors. Right now decorators are hot on clay beige. Our new home is painted with it and I have accented a wall, some arches and recesses with a shade four shades darker and it looks rich and warm....

As for decorating and accesssorizing with this color scheme, sage green, grape or merlot are good choices. Pay attention to the moldings and door and window frames also. If you paint them white, they open up and brighten the room. Use airy fabrics on the windows. You can always purchase shutters for privacy underneath. Keep your chiatsckis (?) to a minimum, but with impact in either a strong color or form....

My living room is black, clay beige, cocoa and off-white with merlot as my impact color and I'm very pleased with the look and feel of the room..

Good luck
Light colors make a room appear larger and dark colors make a room appear smaller... you dont have to use white, just use a light color... your imagination should tell you what color to select... if you need some examples light shades of yellow, blue, green, etc
well i would say bergindee it is nie sophisticated and very mature!!! and i am sorry if i spelt the color wrong
Get a light neutral color, it doesn't have to be white. go to Lowes, Home Depot, where ever you shop. Look at the paint spotches and pick what YOU like, not what a fruity home decorator on hgtv likes.
go mod! light colors to look bigger. paint each wall a cordinating color or opposites the same color or even one wall a different color. also mirrors, mirrors, mirrors, and more mirrors! put several long mirrors on one wall! it will look great! good luck to you.
Yellow! It's bright and still is light enough to make a room seem bigger. Be sure to prime the walls first so the pink doesn't bleed through.
It's true that light colors expand a space, but small rooms have their own charm - ';cozy'; can be great without being large.

Take a look at your wardrobe! What colors are you drawn to? What makes your heart sing?

When I was young(er) I was so afraid to make a commitment to color and everything I had was sooo bland. It took me way too long to find my palette - don't let that happen to you!

If you're a teen or young adult, it might be fun to experiment with a kind of Bohemian look, so you don't have to worry about everything being too ';matchy-matchy'; and you can feel free to play with color.
If you are looking for a very relaxing color, try a really light hyacinth or dusty lilac color. It looks really nice and airy and soothing and will make a small room look larger. It also looks great with sage green as an accent.

  • Is it possible to stain over paint?

have lattice that I maybe am going to wish to stain a brown, but I had already painted in an exterior green.

    Will this be possible?

Thanks for your answers! Is it possible to stain over paint?
Yes you can. Use a solid color acrylic stain. The brands I like are Sherwin Williams Woodscapes and Cabot Pro VT. I don't recommend Behr. I used it on one project and was not impressed. Is it possible to stain over paint?
Since you are staining wood, the surface needs to be clean, dry and bare for the stain to sink into the wood and give you the desired effect. I don't think it will be possible to remove the paint from the lattice because of the nooks and crannies. Maybe its best to paint it another color or get some more lattice.
as stain needs to soak into the wood i would say no it would just wash off
Probably cheaper and easier to replace it with a wooden one!
I think you will find the stain will not adhere to the paint. If you sand the paint down first you should be OK, but you will have to sand it well.
    No. It will not work.

Stain only works on bare wood.

Maybe you should try brown paint.
There is a special case of this called a glaze. But you will not get a ';stained wood look,'; you will get a ';glazed paint look.'; (see photo 2 in below link) You also need to use a glaze, not a big box wood stain. Some people use gel stains as a glaze medium.

You have a couple of options:

    - Faux grain the piece (very difficult on a lattice)

    - Strip, sand, and refinish (very difficult on a lattice)

    - Buy new and start over

    - Live with it

    - Paint it brown.
Yes, but you will have to give it a few coats.

Is it safe to sleep in a room that was painted with Pittsburgh Latex paint a couple of hours ago?

Yes, unless you have some sort of respiratory disease. It will stink though. You might want to spend the night on the couch or in another room, or partially open a window for some fresh air.Is it safe to sleep in a room that was painted with Pittsburgh Latex paint a couple of hours ago?
No problem at all. The only concern would be the odor and you say there really is none. Sleep safe!

What is the best color to paint a women's bathroom?

I get to pick and paint the women's bathroom at my friends new bar, which is actually pretty cool. What are some of the best colors? What is the best color to paint a women's bathroom?
yellow and whiteWhat is the best color to paint a women's bathroom?
Well some women like pink and some women likes white......but the best thing u can do is ask your friends what colors do they prefer unless they r all male then it would b best to get an opinion from one of the girl friends who will b working there
a light blue or green, like the color of the caribbean ocean waters
    light yellow and soft blue
    piss yellow
    foam green!!!
    A nice warm dusty rose.
I used to go to a movie theater that had a pink or rosy painted ladies' room. The ceiling was the same color -- and it made you look so good in the mirror! Very cheering.
Hot pink..scarlet red or cerise....add black here and there for a more sophisticated look
I would go with a light pink or purple and then maybe add some darker colors of the wall color for decoration. You could also go with a them, like in my mom's bathroom the walls are light pink and then she has darker pink wastebasket and a white shower curtain with pink shoes on it with hot pink fuzzy stuff. It all depends on what colors you like too.
    pink or lavender
Pink blue green purple. If you can paintlike a nice butterfly or a big flower
Bronzed mirrors. Pale walls, and LOADS of pot plants....

    Makes women feel like tigresses....
Dusty peach with pale buttery yellow trim.

    .
I hate pink! How about painting it a nice pale sea glass green and giving it a spa feel?
burnt orange is the new mauve:-)
Off white color would be best. It is a bathroom at a bar and will probably not stay nice looking for long. Think about repainting problems if you pick a way out color scheme or touch up painting.
I painted mine ';creole cottage'; by sherwin williams, with ';nuance'; for the trim. very classy. check it out:

    http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_鈥?/a>
White the reason i say this is because the bathroom will appear bigger and make boarders of a different color to contrast .. the reason i say white is because you can make the bathroom accent (rugs and such) any color you want and can change them out when you get tired of the accent colors
Pink. With roses. And Flowers. and Happy bunny rabbits and smiles and HAPPINESS!!!!

Or that might make some women puke.

How about just a pale blue and white?

What is the best color to paint the pine trim on a cedar house?

We tried a medium blue, which doesn't work. There's a good deal of trim, so the right color is important. What is the best color to paint the pine trim on a cedar house?
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

    http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

I think a dark green like ';english ivy'; (# 2935) might look nice.

You can also take a photo of your house %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

    http://www.roomvues.com/

You can get color suggestions %26amp; they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like. What is the best color to paint the pine trim on a cedar house?
Tell me more about the house. Is the cedar stained, if so what color? What color is the roof? Is it in a wooded setting or in town? I haven't seen your blue but I will venture to say it made it look like a bit of a doll house. Avoid crisp whites, it will have the effect of making your house look like it is made of gingerbread. Something reflecting nature would work well, forest greens and cedar are classic. Muted colors such as those found in nature also are great. Nature has very little bright color, look carefully at tree bark, stones, sand...all very muted. My point is that your home is sided in cedar and so it is all about the wood. Keep that theme going by painting the trim in a ';natural'; color. Muted greys, soft rich browns, subtle greens...Hope this helps!

How do you remove someone elses paint from your car?

My friend has white 2006 mustang gt. It is in excellent condition. The other day after being parked at the gym he noticed that there was a little bit of red paint on his bumper. There is no damage to the bumper at all, no scratches either. Just looks like someone bumped up against it and left some of their paint. My question is what is the best way to remove it without damaging his paint. How do you remove someone elses paint from your car?
you can use a lot of products out there to remove paint. some of it is designed to remove it and yet others can damage it if used wrong. Yes you could buff it out but try using a little laquer thinner on a rag. Don't rub real hard or you can damage the paint under it. Since the paint from the other car is on top of the wax and clearcoat it isn't really stuck on as hard as the paint on your car. I have also used easy off oven cleaner to remove paint off of vehicles that have been bumped or had lettering put on the sides for commercial vehicles. Just spray it on and let it sit for a few minutes then wipe clean. make sure it is not cold when you do this as the warmer it is the faster and better it will work. Also no matter what you use insure that you give the area a good waxing before you let the car sit out in the weather as any cleaner that you use will remove or damage the wax coating as well. If you have scratches in your paint after you remove the unwanted persons paint then you can get touch up paint at your local body shop or parts store. Touch up the paint prior to waxing or it won't stick. I have over 5 years body shop experiance and have had to remove tons of paint off cars including graffitti spray painted onto vehicles. Believe me ';Easy Off oven cleaner'; does work for the more tougher jobs. For minor jobs try graffiti remover or goof off. In some cases just ';WD40'; will work. Good luck. How do you remove someone elses paint from your car?
any car wax will remove the paint. don';t waste your money on any expensive products
I would use the edge of an old credit card, carefully.
The best way is to use buffing compound and then re - wax it afterwards.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a 4000 sq ft house?

My fiance and I are remodeling a house and are getting quotes. We are in the southeast (USA) and the house is about 4000 sq ft. Any ideas as to about how much this should cost? How much does it cost to paint the interior of a 4000 sq ft house?
Here is ballpark numbers to help with the cost estimate. (Assuming ideal conditions with minimum to no prep work)

    1. $1.35 - $1.75 per square foot - for sheetrock or brick walls

    2. $3.00 - $3.50 per square foot - for trim if installed.

You also need to add in prep work, materials, mobilization, and labor costs. Don't forget most of the time a cheap estimate will yield a cheap or bad finished product. Make sure you get a reputable painter, with references and ask to see previous work. Lastly, (I have learned this the hard way), have the scope of work and cost in writing with a clear understanding between you and the painter. It never fails that at the end of a project the contractor will want a change order for something that was in the original scope of work.

Best of Luck. How much does it cost to paint the interior of a 4000 sq ft house?
I live in the Alabama and the price per sq ft is re-paints cost $1.75 because everthing is primed and caulked ( well iam sure some preping will have to be done ). But this is where painters make there money is re-paints dont let the tell you different i had my own company gross $350,000 plus, per year all the hard work has been done already re-paints are in and out. On to the next job so 1.75 x 4,000 theres your price and they buy the supplys make sure they have insurance and are bonded are you can be sued and this paint job will be this most high priced one you ever payed for if someone gets hurt are acts like they are hurt. Different companys have different prices so get many company different company to give you a price in the contract never give them money untill the job is complete and you have done a finally walk through. Wacth out for hidden charges such as-called extras have that stated in the contact so they cannot spring you for more money. Check with the B.B.B also and the Homeowners Association located in your town make sure they dont put latex over oil.*
it totally depends on the quality of the existing walls. i.e. how much damage there is, exactly what you want painted, the labor behind painting is what costs the most. my father and my husband are painting contractors and so it all depends on how much work it will entail. it isn't just slopping and rolling on some paint. if you put a lil more info could give you more info.

  • How do you successfully paint over a recently painted wall?

I have recently (about 3 months ago) painted my entire house in magnolia. Yesterday I touched up on a few marks on the wall which had been scuffed/ knocked. You can now see the patches that I have painted over and it looks awful! How do I avoid this in future? And any ideas on how I can improve on what a mess I have made??How do you successfully paint over a recently painted wall?
You will have to repaint the whole wall. You cant spot in when the paint has been on the wall for 3 months, if its been a week or so you can (not silk though). Paint will change colour the longer its on the wall. How do you successfully paint over a recently painted wall?
Don't forget to stir the paint first. My brother once had a part when we were on holiday and some1 got spilled coked all over his wall. When we got back we noticed straigh away becasue it was a shade lighter haha. Bascially he forgot to stirr the paint before using it, however i realize this may not be the cause of your problem .
Rather than touch up small spots, which will flash, you can avoid this by painting the affected wall again. Stop at the corner, and you won't notice the difference. Otherwise, you can wait a month or two to allow the paint to cure and blend with the rest of the wall. Good luck.
Magnolias vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Paint also changes colour the longer it is on the wall.

If you want to chance your luck, use a small (clean) kitchen sponge and dab on layers of paint in a minimal way.
I had the same problem with Magnolia, you should go for a shade instead, the problem with magnolia is the room is dirty (not being rude)and now the fresh paint stands out like a sore thumb.

Think you might have to re-paint your whole house lol x
You can avoid this by using a primer tinted a shade or two lighter than the finish coat. What you are seeing is called ';flash';.
    used lots of layers

How do you mesure a room to paint it?

I have always done my own painting. Now people want to hire me to paint their rooms.I know there is a formula that professional painters use to estimate the cost. Are there any professional painters out there that can help me?How do you mesure a room to paint it?
I am a remodeling contractor and when I need a room painted for a customer...

    I figure square footage...

Divide square footage by coverage per gallon...

    Write down price...

Make an educated guess of how long it would take to paint room...

Figure labor costs, including insurance, special equipment needed and the like...

    Combine all the costs...

    Add overhead margin...

Add profit margin. How do you mesure a room to paint it?
just to let u know, a gallon covers just over 400sq.ft. and a quart does just over 100sq.ft.
How long does it take you to paint a room for yourself? Add about 20% to that, and multiply that by your Hourly rate ($20 to $30 per hour). Then multiply that by the number of rooms. Add in your material costs plus 20%, and that's your bid rate.
(length x height x 2) + (width x height x 2) for a rough estimate of sq. feet of coverage. Multiply that by the number of coats needed...usually 2 coats for light colours but up to 4 coats for dark colours. Check the price and coverage of the specific brand and colour of paint they want to use per gallon. Add the cost of rollers, spackle, cleaners, sandpaper...at least one per different colour. That's your material cost.

Estimate how long it will take you to paint one coat based on the square footage....base your hourly rate on that....then multiply 'hourly rate' x 'time to do one coat' x 'the number of coats needed' + 'time needed to wash, spackle and sand for prep to paint. Then add the cost of all materials and taxes. To that add 10% buffer just in case there are unforseen problems and expenses.
Wall length X Height X number of walls, coverage will be on the side of the can depending on type of surface.
length of wall x height of wall = sq ft of wall....add up all the sq to get total of room's walls....1 gal of paint will cover about 200 sq ft......

Does it violate copyright to paint from a copyrighted photo, then sell the painting?

I see a lot of very nice images online of places %26amp; would like to paint from them, but if they are copyrighted is this ok, if later I might want to sell the painting? I have a realistic style, but it is interpretive, not photographic. (I will add that the images I would be painting would be places I've been before, so I know what the terrain climate and vegetation are like. I don't always have nice photos of when I visited those places though, or from that particular view).

Thanks!Does it violate copyright to paint from a copyrighted photo, then sell the painting?
This question falls under the ';Fair Use'; section of Copyright Law, here's a link to the Fair Use page on the website of the U.S. Copyright Office http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html

The actual limits are very fuzzy, but one of the most important things to pay attention to is this, ';the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.'; Basically meaning (in this case) that if people are less likely to buy the photo you based the painting on because of your painting, then you are infringing on the photographer's copyright.

Although there is no fool-proof formula, most will say that if your painting is altered 60-70% (which is hard to quantify) from the original photo, you are protected under Fair Use.

If that doesn't help I would recommend posting this question in the Law section.

Good luck!Does it violate copyright to paint from a copyrighted photo, then sell the painting?
Yes. It is also unethical to do without getting permission from the photographer.

Any photo you have taken does not have to be ';nice'; to use as an inspiration to do a painting from. I think all artists are interpretive, so not having a perfect reference to paint from should not be an issue.

Just because a photo looks good doesn't indicate it will look good as a painting.
Simply put, No. It is illegal. BUT there are certain loopholes around it, like adding your own element to the painting and omitting an element. You have to decide if selling it is worth the risk of the original artist coming after you for Copyright infringement. And you have to have a good argument to state that you did not copy them, but rather you drew your inspiration from ________________(Fill in the blank here) and not from their images.
Technically it does violate a copyright, but any case brought against you would be very hard to prove especially if you used significant amounts of ';interpretation';. Musicians copy each others riffs all the time and its called ';sampling';.

My advice it not to worry about it at all and paint away.

I have some old oil-based exterior paint. Is it possible to use it on bathroom ceiling?

I have done that very thing - the ceiling is actually ply and I was worried about it getting steamed up over time - it has been good for 10 years. The only note of caution is to make sure that what it has been painted with before won't flake off beneath - if it is emulsion it should be OK. Have half a big onion in the room when you are doing it, though.I have some old oil-based exterior paint. Is it possible to use it on bathroom ceiling?
if the ceiling was painted you should prime first-oil will not stick to latex paint. try sanding the ceiling a scuff coat. doing things right is not always easy or best.I have some old oil-based exterior paint. Is it possible to use it on bathroom ceiling?
I am sure you can but it might stink.

Can anyone tell me how much a paint job cost?

I am planning on painting the interior of my house. I would like to know, how much is the cost per sq. feet in a home in the state of Florida? I still haven't gotten an estimate from a company, but friends tell me it'll be very expensive. I just want to have an idea before I get the estimate. Thanks! Can anyone tell me how much a paint job cost?
Florida is so much more expensive than other states. It is best to get two or three free estimates, after you choose one call Better Business Bureau and check them out.Can anyone tell me how much a paint job cost?
Remember!!!: most expensive estimate doesn't mean a good job. Almost impossible to make old walls look perfect. Get the cheapest painters.
When we paint we do it our selves! All you need is a few tools and a couple of gallons of paint! The paint runs us about 30 a gallon for the high end stuff and the tools (paintbrushes rollers and stuff) runs us about 50 or so at least if you don't have it left over from the last time we painted

I have basketball lines spray painted on my drive way (asphalt) and its been there for a few years now. I just now decided to check the mesurments and found out they are wrong. Is there a way to remove it?Is there a way to remove spray paint from a paved surface?
yes, but maybe notIs there a way to remove spray paint from a paved surface?
Paint over them in black and repaint, Jasco paint remover, or you can rent a sand blaster.
get a weed torch and burn it off that is the same way that the city people remove there paint
Go to your local hardware store and look in the paint section for Oops or Goof Off.These removers will take off any paint, adhesive,or tar products.
You could power wash it or sealcote the drive way to cover them up.
YUP.. thinner or paint remover or kerosene gas.
According to consumer reports you can remove paint from hard surfaces by using liquid detergent straight out of the bottle and scrub.I don't know how that would do on a few years old paint. But I think you should go to home depot and rent a power washer, and that will definitely do it, and any other part of the house outside, if you need to.
With the surface being asphalt the cleaners mentioned would make a bigger mess.

If the surface has been there for a few years, putting a new asphalt seal coat on top wouldn't hurt. Would make the surface look new, seals cracks and covers paint. Its not very expensive to do, its easy and will help the drive last longer.

What do I need to do to paint an already finished step stool?

I have a preschool class that is painting an already finished step stool from target for our art show. Since the wood is already glossy, what do I need to do to prepare it for the kids to paint it? So far people have told me I may need to sand and prime it. Can anyone help with more specific directions on what we should do before %26amp; after painting and also what kind of paint, etc. to use? I've never done a project like this before so I have no clue, thanks a lot! What do I need to do to paint an already finished step stool?
They make a special primer that is used on cabinets that dries to a ruff surface so paint will adhere to it no sanding involved go to your local paint supply and ask for it and ask them what type of paint to finish with weather you want high gloss enamel or no gloss etc. What do I need to do to paint an already finished step stool?
If you put them in the driveway the weight of the car or truck will crush them for you each time you drive over them.

What's the best way to strip paint off a wooden porch?

The paint on my wooden front porch is chipping and needs to be removed. I want to remove it and then stain the wood underneath with a translucent stain. What's the best way to remove the paint so i preserve the wood? Some recommend using a water pressure because it's fast and easy. But, wouldnt all the wood chips just fly everywhere and be a mess to clean up for my grass? Using goof off or a paint removal liquid seems like a long task since my porch is about 15x25 sq ft. Any suggestions? What's the best way to strip paint off a wooden porch?
Easiest way BUT not the cheapest would be to go to your local paint store and get yourself a five gallon bucket of ';Peel Away'; it will take multiple layers off at one shot. They will explain how it works for you or just put it in the computer peel away, they must have a site. Good luck Les the painterWhat's the best way to strip paint off a wooden porch?
Using a power washer will cause the wood to expand, and will possibly harm the finish.

Use a heat gun. You can get one at a hardware store. It looks like a heavy duty hair dryer. Heat up the paint, and scrape it off with a putty knife or standard scraper. It will take some work, but it will give you the best results.

Clean off the excess paint with some sort of solvent. Paint stripper works best. Be sure to follow the directions on the container.

You'll want to sand the deck to a smooth finish. There are all sorts of gadgets to do this, but an electric sander will probably give you the best results.
You are right, using pressurized water will be a huge mess, and the deck will have to be dried out before you apply anything else to it. It is unlikely that water would take all the old paint off anyway, and you'll still have to sand or scrape. Pressurized water can also splinter your wood, and you'll have to sand the fuzzy or splintered areas. I have used the chemical strippers, you basically paint them on, let it sit for awhile, scrape off the paint and the stripper. You could apply it with a roller to make the application faster. I'd say that is the way to go.

Is it possible to purchase an exterior paint that looks nearly similar to a dark brown stain?

I havent seen one , but was thinking of using this , since I have already missed the chance to stain my lattice a dark brown, I have already painted it an exterior green.

Thanks for your answers! Is it possible to purchase an exterior paint that looks nearly similar to a dark brown stain?
Yes, you can match the color of any stain with the color of exterior paint. The only difference is that stain is transparent and allows the natural grain and beauty of the wood to show through. Paint completely covers and hides the wood. You can buy paint in every shade of brown. Just go to the paint store and tell them what you want.

ADDED: You are probably better off painting your lattice work anyway. Lattice is usually made out of cheap pine and will look better and be better protected with a good exterior paint. Paint would have been my first choice to begin with.

Well.....what are you waiting for....go get some paint!

Good Luck!!Is it possible to purchase an exterior paint that looks nearly similar to a dark brown stain?
If it is any help what about rust or you can mix Red with a hint of orange. Terracotta, failing that you should be able to find someone at the D.I.Y. Store who could help you.

    Good luck.
yes Johnson got good rainge of stains better than en 1 else
Use a solid stain. They will cover most paints and give you the stain finish. The brands I like are Cabot Pro VT and Sherwin Williams Woodscapes.
The difference between using stain and paint is that with stain you can pick up the grains in the wood verses when you paint it covers them, if you are trying to match a stain and paint, it will not look right and especially if your doing it out side, not a good idea, but if your painting over everything then take a sample of the stain to your local building store (like home depot or Menard's) and they can color match for you. Hope this helps
.have you tried Guinness...when you have got tired of putting it on you can allways try drinking the stuff!
yes sadolin do one to match there stains

What can I do about possible lead paint on my living room floor?

We had to pull up some carpet in our 80 YO house. We completed several rooms without incident, and had very few issues (mainly cosmetic). We got to the final room today, which is a high traffic family room. The carpet was damaged in several places, so as we had in the other rooms, we started at the edges and worked our way into the center. All looked well until we hit the very middle- there is an 8 by 10 spot of painted floor.

Under normal circumstances, I might not be alarmed, but since the house is older, I am very concerned that the paint might contain lead. We have a small child and pets, so the concern is compounded. We have been so careful, and I am absolutely heartsick that we may have put our child in any sort of danger.

It is Sunday, and I need a game plan. Can anyone give me some short term (and long term) suggestions? Money is really tight, so the more we can do ourselves, the better, but I will find the money if we need to do something to make it safe for our family. What can I do about possible lead paint on my living room floor?
Your child is not at necessarily at risk even if it is lead-based paint (LBP). Only if there is paint dust that they have ingested.

A very few children eat paint chips. They are either exceedingly hungry or bored, have a psych issue and/or have come to like the slightly sweet taste.

Impact surfaces (door and window frames and double-hung window casements) are the big sources of LBP dust. Less so with floors. Wet mop up any dust, don't sweep/disturb it while dry.

Get a LBP test kit from a better paint store, about $15 for four tests. If it comes back positive, re-post with more specifics. But if you re-carpet, the exposure pathway goes away. Or cover with linoleum, Pergo, etc.

1-2 year olds are at greatest risk. Brains are developing quickly from 0 to 5 and that is what is disrupted by lead exposure. %26lt;1 and they are babes in arms. %26gt;2 and they walk mostly. But 1-2 they are on the floor and everything goes hand-to-mouth. Keeping the floor dusted can reduce exposure (and blood lead levels) by 10 fold.

Lead exposure doesn't effect only poor children, but they are at greater risk due to typically less dusting and housekeeping being performed and the possibly lack of calcium in their diets which increases the uptake of any lead they ingest.

Paint used before 1950 can have high lead levels, especially in kitchens, bathrooms, doors, windows and trim. Paint from 1950 to 1978 can also have lead, but typically at lower levels.

-DavidWhat can I do about possible lead paint on my living room floor?
tell you kids to eat it.
The proper procedure is to wet it (you don't want it to be in the air) and scrape it (wear a mask of course). Place it in a double plastic bag and throw it away. Do not cover it because it will just become a problem for you or someone else in the future. You might want to send the kids to the neighbor's while you are doing this.
You could try putting a few paint chips in a plastic bag and sending them to a lab to test for lead. Until you know what it is, keep a good thick area rug on it because paint on the floor will get scuffed and kicked around.

If it is lead, don't disturb it until you can have a professional remover come in. Good luck!
For the short term, cover it with a rug or a coat of paint. Undisturbed lead paint is not a real problem unless someone chews on it and ingests the flakes.

For the long term get it tested to see if is does have lead. If so, you will probably need to have it removed by a certified contractor or cover it in a more permanent manner.
Try this site for some help. I understand. We have kids and an old house too.

    http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/lea鈥?/a>

There are also lead paint test kits that you can buy. You might not have to worry at all. Good luck!
    use stain remover
They stopped making lead based paint in 1978. it is not harmful unless a person eats it. One paint chip will not hurt you, but several can. See, lead has a sweet taste to it...hence kids eat a ton of it.

I would not worry about it. But I would advise you to paint over it with another paint. Even if it is a small spot.

If you have the same drywall as 80 years ago you have LBP, but with all the coats added to it it would be hard to get at it.

Don't sand it, the dust can be harmful.

How long does it take to paint the inside of a house?

It is relatively small, two small bedrooms a connecting dinning room to the living room and a master, thats what we are painting. Oh it's a mobile home. One coat. How long does it take to paint the inside of a house?
like a half a day, and take the other half for it to dry.

it also depends on what color is on the wall right now, and how many coats you will need to properly paint the walls.

all in all, in shouldn't take more than 1 day. have fun, lol, and hope it comes out good! How long does it take to paint the inside of a house?
If--and it's a big if--everything is fully prepped and all the furniture is out, two people can do a room in 2-3 hours if they're fussy and exacting, 90 minutes - 2 hours if they're not. I'm talking continuous effort, no breaks.

Prepping means the surface to be painted is clean and dry, with holes and cracks repaired and sanded, drop cloths are in place, ladders or stepstools are ready, brushes, rollers, and trays are clean and ready, and you've got windows masked and the edges of the floor surface protected.

It makes a big difference if you can completely empty a room of its furniture, too. Maybe you can cram two rooms' furniture into a third room, for instance. Most interior paint is dry enough to move the furniture back into the room in 4-6 hours.

  • How long should I let oil paint dry between coats on my front door?

The directions are illegible! I'm using Benjamin Moore exterior oil paint. It says it will take 4-6 hours to dry and XX hours should be allowed between coats. Any ideas? I'd like to finish today if possible. Thanks! How long should I let oil paint dry between coats on my front door?
You usually need to wait 24 hours between coats when using oil based paint. High humidity will also need to be considered in allowing for drying time. Usually over night is a good rule of thumb.

Most of the time you will need to do a light sanding with 220 grit paper to get any fuzz, small dirt particles or drips or runs out before putting on a second coat. Oil base paint usually just isn't dry enough to sand in less that 24 hours. How long should I let oil paint dry between coats on my front door?
Call the store where you bought the paint and they can tell you what is written on the can. Good Luck
My nephew, who is a professional says 4 hours.

How to go about repairing and paint the paneling around the shower?

We have an odd shower paneling around the bottom of the bathroom, and in the shower.

There are a few spots where pieces have broken off and I'd like to be able to fill this, smooth it out, and paint it. The problem is, it's a hollow hole, and goes directly into the wall itself. What's the best way to clean this up and fix it?

And what is the best paint that'll adhere to this, and also to plastered walls? How to go about repairing and paint the paneling around the shower?
You can fix the holes with Elmers wood patch. Mixes with water like plaster of paris. You will need to back the empty spaces. You can use wadded newsprint, expanding foam, something stiff enough to hold the patch material while it sets. There is a primer that sticks very well to paneling. Called BIN zinzer. Then you can paint anything you wantHow to go about repairing and paint the paneling around the shower?

What is the best color to paint a bedroom?

I am a kid with a 10 ft. by 10ft. room and I have toupe (a pinkish ugly color) and I want to paint it either baby blue or some form of blue, but i don't know what it will look like. Any advice? What is the best color to paint a bedroom?
My daughters room is a bright dark blue -- if that makes sense - we matched it to her comforter and it looks great!! Thank you for breaking outta white!!What is the best color to paint a bedroom?
My room is in baby blue and I love it, it's so peaceful and makes you feel cheerful when you walk in the room...you'll like it trust me...don't choose any dark blues, it's to gloomy and will make your room look small, stick to light blues....
id say anything pastel, its nice looking for when your older, and its also fun looking
transparent, so that people can enjoy
    no idea. im color blind
I like off-white, because its very easy to put up pictures and things without any colors clashing. Make sure you use a base-coat to cover the original color, or it will bleed through in some cases.
Blue is a calming color so that would be a good choice. I agree with the previous poster that pastel colors are nice. You should look at different colors and go to your local hardware store and buy it. I suggest this site: http://www.kellymoore.com/site/colorXper…

If you're still having trouble, you can never go wrong with your favorite color =)
Dark colors will make the room appear smaller but reflect less light if you like to sleep in after the sun is up. A lighter blue will make the room look bigger but the room will also be much brighter. So you might want to think about how you want it to “feel.” Dark and snug or light and energizing.
Baby blue would be a good choice specially if your a boy.
    LIME GREEN!!!!!!

What's the best way to paint over a wall that wallpaper has been removed from?

I recently removed the wallpaper from my kitchen and wanted to paint. I have sanded it all smooth, but the paint won't stick anywhere there was a seam in the wallpaper. Am I going to have to paint with Kilz first or will Kilz even stick? What's the best way to paint over a wall that wallpaper has been removed from?
UGH! I feel your pain. We have gone through the same process in just about every room of our house.

What you want to do is:

    1. Sand some more. Just go nuts with the sandpaper until the wall is as smooth as a baby's butt.

    2. Get some wallpaper glue remover from your local hardware or paint store. get that glue out of there!

    3. Prime it. At least twice!

Good luck! What's the best way to paint over a wall that wallpaper has been removed from?
You've got to start with an absolutely clean base. I washed my walls with TSP, then painted on a coat of Kilz. I had very old wallpaper to remove. It came off easily but left a thick coat of paste. Hope this helps.
You can texture and paint over wall paper but there are several things to consider. First, is the paper adhering well to the wall? Second, does the paper have a texture? Third, is the paper dark in color? These issues will be addressed throughout this response.

If there are any loose sections or bubbles in the paper, they will have to be glued. The best way to do this is to use Elmer's Glue and a syringe so the paper does not have to be pulled. If there are many areas that are loose, I would suggest removing it.

Usually, if the paper is removed, some of the drywall paper will come off too. These areas will have to be floated with joint compound, sanded, or washed, and primed with a sealer, like Kilz, before texture is applied.

Use the premixed compound and be sure to stir it up to make it smooth and workable. I prefer washing drywall floating in an occupied home because of the dust. Any large sponge and a bucket of water will do. You simply rub the area with the wet, almost dripping wet, sponge until the compound softens. With a little practice, you can smooth the compound very easily. Depending on the wall damage, you may have to apply more than one coat of compound.

There are commercial paper removers available at many rental stores that include a roller with pins on it to puncture the paper. You simply roll this all over the wall to fill the paper with holes. The system also includes an ';iron'; attached to a steam generator to inject steam behind the paper. As the steam is injected, the glue softens so the paper can be scraped off with a 3 or 4'; putty knife. Care must be taken to avoid damaging the drywall. Ask the rental company for help before you begin.

If the paper is secure and small repairs are done, the first step is to float out the wallpaper seams with joint compound. You will have to sand or wash the compound after drying to give you a smooth wall. (See above for washing procedure) If the paper has a texture to it, you may have to float the whole wall. After you have the wall smooth, use a penetrating sealer, such as oil based Kilz, over the whole wall. If the paper is dark, you may have to apply 2 coats of sealer.

You are then ready to texture and paint. The best say to apply texture is to blow it on with a hopper and air compressor. This will give you the best uniform texture. The roll-on textures are very difficult to make uniform. Be sure to mask and cover everything you don't want to texture.

After drying, you are ready to paint. Any latex paint will do and many homeowners use an ';eggshell'; finish because it is easier to keep clean. The better paints will cost more but they will cover better and last longer.
Make sure all of the wallpaper has been removed. Then you will need some medium to fine grain sand paper to sand off the remaining glue that did not come off with the paper. An electric sander works really great but don't use too much pressure or you may end up with small divots in your wall. After getting the glue off, be sure to remove residual sanding dust with a clean and dry rag and then prepare you walls with a good wall primer (can be purchased at any reliable hardware or paint store). If you're unsure as to which product you will need, be sure to speak to a knowledgeable person that works strictly in the paint section. They should be able to locate the right product for you. After the primer has been applied and allowed to dry, you can paint away to your hearts delight. Good luck and let me know the outcome of your remodeling.
You will definitely need to use some kind of primer before you paint. Yes Kilz will work or even any other household primer. This will help the paint bond better.
If you removed wallpaper, there are products on the market, especially at stores like Lowes and Home Depot, that should be applied to the wall before painting. I can't remember what they're called, but the people at either store can recommend the right product. Then you really should paint with Kilz before the final coat of paint.
Make sure you get all the glue off. To do this, use a product called DIF.

Then, yes, you need to prime the wall... prime it twice.
Kilz covers up stands. and yes can be used as a primer before painting. a primer can be used also before painting and may be cheaper to use then Kilz.
Get some wallpaper glue and try and see if this will help.If it does. Then go ahead and paint your wall.
wash the area with tsp. then prime it with an oil primer. it should adhere the paint to the wall then.
Over the years where the wallpaper seams were they have collected dirt, grease, and cooking smoke. These areas are saturated into the drywall. Kilz should work well if you have sanded and prepped the walls. Paint a small area (the seam areas) and allow a couple of days and check results. If this fails you will need a degreasing agent from your paint store.
I'd definitely do the Kilz 1st test it on the section where the seam was 1st before you jump on doing the whole room and then find out. If the Kilz doesn't work as your local hardware store in the paint section they should definitely know.
First you must wash the walls done after you have sanded with a product like Dip as Home Depot. If you have damaged the back of the wallboard you will need to tape and patch before priming. The primer is necessary. Now the walls will need 2 coats of good paint. Now it should look like new.
    use primer paint
maybe you should paint white first a heavy coat. then a heavy coat of the color you want.
use john matt paint by johnsons it lets plaster coated walls breath
you have to wash the walls with TSP- trisodiumphosphate first.

Use your wallpaper scrapper with the solution on the walls to get all residue off and you should be fine.
get all the glue odd using DIF then paint over the wall double coated
You really need to get rid of the glue residue... a little water and some and a lot of elbow work... after it's cleaned out then use a good primer and it should work out fine

    Best of Luck!
When ever I have stripped wallpaper, I always prime the wall with a oil based primer to seal out any water stains. Water based, even kilz water base, will let the stains bleed though. As far as the paint not sticking on the seams, I would use the old tried and true, and stinky oil based kilz. The priming will also ensure a constant finish when the finish coat is applied. It may not be what you want to hear, but it won,t be as frustrating as having to start over again later.
Sounds crazy but use white vinegar mixed half and half with very hot water. Apply with ';scrubby sponge';, you know what I mean. This will remove old glue, which is what is causing your problem. Kilz is good idea any time you are painting old wall but may not be essential if wall appears in very good condition.

spray it lot easier you can buy the spray for it from B%26amp;Q places like that,

just put lots a news paper around the thing so not to catch anything else with over spray, make sure the windows are open and it will be dry in 30 minutes

already been said , and igree with the others that have said spray it ...........
I'd take it off the wall and paint it flat - so any drips fell through. Painting it in situ would cause them to run down it and spoil the look. Good luck - I spent hours and hours earlier this year painting garden trellis - horrid stuff!

  • How can i remove touch up paint from a living room carpet?

the hubby was using it in his new air gun, and instead of going out on the deck he used it inside, and since there was nothing laid on the floor, i have a blue spot on the almost white carpet. Since this is an apartment, i need to get the stain out or we will not get our money back!!!!!!! Help please! How can i remove touch up paint from a living room carpet?
If it麓s emulsion then it should come out with warm water. use a sponge, work inwards from the stain , this way you won麓t spread the stain further. Otherwise use a small amount of turps, Then wash with warm water and a little mild soapHow can i remove touch up paint from a living room carpet?
If the carpet is almost white, try to use some very diluted clorox, or vinegar. The type of paint that they use to touch up a car is an oil base paint... so paint remover... but that may make the carpet darker in that area.

Hair spray may work. it removes inks...
I don't know if it'll work on paint or not but I had couple of huge stains on my living room carpet and I got them out with Thieves household cleaner. It works wonderful!! If you're interested you can check it out online at www.moldrx4u.com

    Heather
Depends on if the paint is oil based? or is it water based? ...assuming that the paint has already dried by now, it may be quite difficult to remove...i would take a razor blade and spend some time trying to gently scrape off as much of the dried paint as possible, taking extra caution so you don't cut too much of the carpet fibers during the process...start with that, and then go from there...btw, just how big is this ';blue spot';??

Here's a link that has a few different ideas that you might want to try, depending on your situation...good luck! hope this helps.
When we moved in or house the builder had paint all over the place. they used a product called Goof -Off and it took the water base paint up fast and did not harm the color of the carpet. I found it in the paint section at Wal-Mart and HomDepot
Touching up paint on a car! That type paint is usually tough and not removable.

My suggestion is to patch the carpet since its a small spot. Take a swatch from a closet corner, cut out the stain from the carpet and plug the hole with the carpet from the closet. You can probably get better instructions by searching the web, but it can be done.
When I needed to remove overspray of paint from linoleum floors, I found that Painter's Pal worked great. It's available at Home Depot, Lowe's, WalMart, etc. It probably won't work if the paint is really old but it sounds like it's pretty fresh at your place. Whatever you decide to use, with any solvent based cleaner, be sure to test in an inconspicuous place first or the cure might be worse than the problem! Good luck.
have you tried repainting the carpet white?

Should I have the paint store shake my paint primer before using?

I purchaseed some Zinser primer to paint my walls in kitchen, but i did not have them shake the paint. Is it ok to go ahead and use without shaking or can I just stir really well?Should I have the paint store shake my paint primer before using?
Shaken is better than stirred.Should I have the paint store shake my paint primer before using?
Shaken is not better than stirred. Shaken is easier than stirred, nothing more. Make sure you scrape the bottom of the can well with your stick so there are no solids left. Stir until the mix looks consistent, then stir another minute or so to make sure.
You'll be fine stirring unless the can is real old. Also note you can have the primer tinted to the same color as your final coat at no charge. This will usually save you a second coat of paint.
    yes always.

Whats the difference between general automotive paint and specific for rims?

Been in shop seen two silver paints from same maker one for general automotive other is for rims, and cost slightly more, whats the difference between them?Whats the difference between general automotive paint and specific for rims?
I can't say for sure that there is a difference. My best friend is a body man and painter, and I must say, a very good one. I have seen him paint wheels with regular car paint before. It holds up just fine, and looks great.

Besides that, He has painted engines before installing them with standard automotive paint and it does not burn off, peel or discolor, and it lasts longer than high heat engine paint.

If you are referring to spray paint from an aerosol can, there is a difference. Wheel paint is supposed to be more resistant to chemicals such as wheel cleaners, and hold up to heat from the brakes better than regular paint.

How much should it cost to paint 45 feet of wall space?

I just added up all the wall space in my new place that I want to repaint. The ceilings are 8'2'; high, and I am using Benjamin Moore paint. This room is not really that complicated to paint (standard walls) except the tricky area between the 3 transom windows (and walls) where there are 4 2'; strips to be painted without hitting the window frame. I am wondering about labor mostly, but if you think you know how much paint will be - that's great too. The room is 21 x 21 but not all of the walls can be painted due to windows, doors, or built in cabinets. Thanks! How much should it cost to paint 45 feet of wall space?
You need 3 gallons of paint..You said repainting so no need for a primer, but do clean the walls first..this room will take only 1 day so about 200.00 labor should do it...I do not suggest Benjamin Moore paint though..It streaks alot and thier colorant formulas usually end up in miss matching in the long run..Plus most of thier opaint is fortified, meaning they add a touch of alkyd paints with thier latexes(yes for real)..if the color is a deep tone it takes forever to dry unlike most latex paints, it touches up crappy...and is rough on your tools..I suggest a good Sherwin Willimas ';pro mar 200'; or cashmere lables for good coverage and touch up, and user friendly...A 21 x 21 room I can paint myself in 4 hours easily, but at contractor prices I charge no less than 200.00 a day..I don't know where all these other obnoxious figures come from ..lol...Harley dude here was a well pump service and installer the other day..and 28 years experience lol...I have seen all the way up to 35 years experience in other fields too lol....That price quote is keeping in mind that there is no moving of furniure..and a minimal of prep work/patchesHow much should it cost to paint 45 feet of wall space?

You should be able to do the whole project for about $90. That should cover the cost of paint, brushes, roller, roller pan, painters tape, and other miscellaneous items. If you're planning on painting the trim and/or ceiling, figure in another $30 for each color.

1 gallon should cover the wall space you described, but since one-coat paint usually isn't, I've figured for 2 gallons @ $30 a gallon. I'm not familiar with the brand you mentioned, but around here $30 is about average for a medium grade of paint.

I have no clue about labor. Something that small I would just paint myself...

  • What are the best colors to paint your bathroom when re-selling?

Thinking about selling our house and need to know the best things to do to get more money out of it!What are the best colors to paint your bathroom when re-selling?
I have to disagree with neutrals-----the trend now is in designer colors and people want to see spa-like bathrooms. What color are your floors, fixtures and tile? If they are in the neutral range, go with a soft sage green (NOT mint green!) on the walls. Stage the bathroom with all white or off-white plain towels and rugs. Add in some bamboo accessories and maybe an orchid on the counter---real or faux. This will give your bathroom a calm, soothing spa type feel. Good luck

also---a great hint! Clean your faucets and any other metal surfaces with rubbing alcohol. It will get rid of any water spots and make them shine like new! What are the best colors to paint your bathroom when re-selling?
they say paint everything light or nuterual colors
At present, the beige/taupe/camel/caramel colours are the most desired...they look rich and expensive...
I think the best way to decorate or stage a bathroom is to have a ';spa-like'; feel to it, so we painted ours a sort of light green.....I wouldn't say sea foam but it was along those lines.
I have just had my bathroom decorated and we chose a warm terracotta and it looks lovely. I think some bathrooms look cold and this colour has added alot of warmth. Everything else in there is white, whick looks nice and clean.
Neutrals, like off white. The problem is that the ';really cool colors'; you picked don't necessarily sell. As soon as someone sees a hideous green bathroom, they immediately think about how much effort and money it will take to redo it. Same with every other room. Not so with off white. It doesn't even get their attention, so there are no ';how much will it cost'; thoughts in their heads. They simply realize that they can move right in, put in their towels, soap dispensers, furniture, appliances, pictures, and everything else, and it will all blend.
Paint everything white. Also, change out all light bulbs to Reveal light bulbs. It will be like walking into sunshine in your house. Yes, all light bulbs!
Keep your room colors neutral, de-clutter, and try to put away as many personal type items as you can. Do whatever you need to make sure the best features of your house show and not your stuff. Make sure that each of your rooms will show for the purpose they are to be used for. If your dining room is currently your office, it needs to show as a dining room for example.
Neutral tones. Basically, you a color that the potential buyers can ignore, so that they can focus on the features %26amp; layout of your house.

I would suggest finding your best towels - the ones that you will display when showing your home (or buy nice, new ones, if necessary) and then choose a coordinating color that will work well with that color. Sherwin Williams color visualizer is great for that b/c it shows a color scheme at the bottom of the page that will work well together.

I'd keep everything neutral; whites, beiges, creams.

What's the best process for paint repair on aluminum parts?

I have a front wheel hub that had several finger nail size paint chips on it. It's a Spinnery Xaero hub and it appears to be bad prep work at the factory. They're out of warranty so I need to touch them up myself. I'd like to use a brush not spray. After I clean the light corrosion off with light sanding what is the best process (and paint) to prep %26amp; paint so this will not chip again? What's the best process for paint repair on aluminum parts?
After the light sanding, wipe the area to be painted with a lint-free rag soaked in naptha or mineral spirits. This will get any oil off the metal.

You should look at a hobby shop for some oil based paint in a very small bottle. Make sure it's oil based and not acrylic.

You might want to use a work-light with a 75 watt bulb to heat the hub for a few minutes before painting, that way there won't be any moisture condensing on the part.

I have found that using a lamp bulb to heat the metal makes the paint more scratch resistant.

PS-I've never heard of Spinnery Xaero. Do you mean this :

How much does it cost to paint the average room?

My boyfriend has a regular job but volunteered to paint one of his collegues new 300,000 home this weekend. He said the living room is 3 times his apartment's living room. He's been working very hard since friday. He's doing the molding? whatever that is, sandpapering, doing the undercoat then the paint. He only worked about 3 1/2 hrs yesturday and he said his hand were hurting. He is a strong man, he played high school, college and professional football and still plays arena. He is also the personal trainer of the guy's home he is painting. It seems like he is working very hard for the few dollars he is asking for. I need to know how much does it really cost to paint the average room and what it includes. I want him to be faily compensated, leaving it up to him, he will give a friendly price that will only piss me off. Thanks in advice. How much does it cost to paint the average room?
Sq footage would be nice info.

I do little jobs for my friends all the time. I ask for $15 an hour and they pay for materials. Most of the time people underestimate how long a painting project takes.

There are special Low VOC paints made specifically for that type of application. You may want to shut that room off from access for a few days if you can.

Heres a link to the type of paint I'm talking about.

You might want to try and get a fan going in there just to circulate the air so you dont get sick from the paint fumes. Hope this helps!
Get a one coat bathroom paint. Then paint early and open the windows.Put a fan on and let it dry. Some paints say how long it will take to dry...
You should use a paint that has LOW -VOC there are a few out there now Voc is basically what makes the paint smell the web site below has lots of information on different kinds of paint and rates them.

Interesting article, and I also agree using a fan to dry the paint faster will also help. Use latex (water based paint), less toxic smell, avoid oil-based paints.
I'm in agreement with the other poster.

    Or use wallpaper.
Open all the windows you can before you start and maybe keep an osculating fan in the room with you so suck the fumes out the room your in and toward the open windows.

Where can you buy car paint (online or local) that comes in a bigger container than regular touch up paint?

Most paint shops usually have a division that sells auto paint, so even if they do not carry it in the store, they will be able to order it. In my state, Sherwin Williams is pretty big and has an automotive section.

Often, auto parts stores will also carry it, but you might have better luck with smaller stores than the big franchise ones. A lot of times they are just ordering it from a place like Sherwin Williams, but they might be able to get you a better deal, so it is worth checking out.Where can you buy car paint (online or local) that comes in a bigger container than regular touch up paint?
Look for Auto paint stores in your area. If you give them the paint code, they will be able to mix it for you and sell you the supporting solvents/chemicals you will need. This is probably beyond the reach of your average autozone, but specialty shops should have no problem.
Most cities of any size have at least one auto paint store. You can buy off the shelf, or special order any color in the rainbow (and some that are not there)

How to wash out the oil paint from the brush?

Is there some chemical to wash it out, or soap and water is the best way?How to wash out the oil paint from the brush?
You clean oil paint brushes by first wiping the paint out of them with a rag and turpentine, odorless turpenoid, or Livos solvent, you have to use small amounts of these because it is illegal in most places to rinse them down the drain, as they are highly pollutant. You can then rub soap into the bristles and rinse with water. Oil rags have to be disposed of in metal containers because they are highly flamable. How to wash out the oil paint from the brush?
The best method I know of: Wipe the brush well with paper towel or rag. Wash with paint thinner. Then use waterless hand cleaner (like mechanics use only without pumice, as that will wear out your brushes ) Then rinse with water. The hand cleaner emulsifies the paint and makes it water soluble. This cleans the paint out of the heel of the brush, where if it dries the brush is ruined. This REALLY WORKS WELL.
turpentine or linseed oil. There is also some eco friendly oil brush cleaners. Check your local hobby shop.
Turpentine, then when the paint is gone, soap and water, rinse, then dry before using the brush again.

If you are going to be using it straight away, just use the turpentine.
    Maybe WD-40.
Well I usually use baby oil/canola oil to remove excess oil from my brush...i alos put oil on my brush and then i use soap and then water. Well that's what my art teacher taught up in my oil painting class.
The best way to clean your brushes without damaging them is:

Wipe off excess paint with paper towel.

Clean with turpentine or mineral spirits. Best stuff to use is odorless turpenoid sold in all art stores. Other option is to clean it with Phelps Naphta soap, works wonders, I had a jacket that had dried oil paint on it, my wife rubbged some wet soap on it , threw it in the washer. Now it is clean as new.

Put some soap on the brushes to form them if you are not going to use them right away, hand soap might work too.

    Leave them till next use.
    Turpentine or ';White Spirit';.
A premium paint thinner is Mineral Spirits. The odorless kind. Wipe off excess paint from your brush first. Swish your brush in a small, disposable container, apply soap in your hand and wash your brush in the palm of your hand. Rinse well. Shape your brushes and let air dry.

Acetone is harsh on brushes and water nor vinegar will work on oils. You can buy paint thinners at an art supply store, but they are expensive. Odorless Mineral Spirits can be purchased at any hardware store.. Happy painting!
    Paint Thinner works pretty well.
It does'nt worth the cost of that.

You may but a new brush at that expense.

But some can be washed by warm water, just be careful not to pay 50 times the price of a brush to your plumber if you do that the wrong way.
    Solvent is turpentine or Varsol.
You could try turpentine if you have any, or vinegar might work.
No. Do not use soap and water for oil paint, it simply will not work. Soap and water is the worst way. You need to use paint thinner or mineral spirits. In a pinch you can also use acetone. Vinegar will not work either, don't even think about it. Normal vinegar you but from the store is 95% water.

For oil paint you need mineral spirits aka paint thinnner, turpentine, and acetone will work as well.

  • What is the best way to paint shower tile?

I have some 4 inch YELLOW tile in a shower that I want to paint white instead of replacing the tile. I would also like to re-grout the tile. Any suggestions? What is the best way to paint shower tile?
You can paint tile but not in a shower area. The water will cause the paint to peel and it will look worse. What is the best way to paint shower tile?
There is dye for the grout but not fro tile when the tile is fired the color is added you woul have to sand the tile so much that you would not be able to get the Scratches out then th epaint would not stay. the best bet is to replace th etile
Home Depot sells porcelin refinishing kits (epoxy), but it is difficult to get a nice finish; best results with a sprayer or hire a pro. If you are going to re-grout anyway, it may be best just to put in new tile.
I would pay a pro to refinish it. I've seen what my friend did to his bathroom trying to paint the tile himself. I'm not saying that you would do the same, I just saw how easy it was to mess it up.

How do you get rid of paint that dripped into your jeans?

I was helping a friend of mine paint her hallway. I had forgotten my painting jeans and had to paint with my regular jeans on. Now I've got some paint stains on them. The interior pain that we used was water base. Does anyone have a good tip on getting the spots of paint of my jeans??How do you get rid of paint that dripped into your jeans?
If it doesn't come out based on other people's suggestions, you now, unfortunately, have another pair of ';paint'; pants. Good luck but I've never been able to get paint out of fabric. How do you get rid of paint that dripped into your jeans?
aerosol hair spray. spray it directly on the spots. saturate the spots. let it sit for an hour, then wash them by themselves. it should work
Paint never comes out. Look at painter's pants.
paint is like impossible to get off when dry. try liquid detergent and a toothbrush. I don't hold out much hope though.
turpentine rub on till stain comes out then wash your jeans right away
well good luck in trying to get paint out of jeans. impossible. l did that once and l had a hard time getting the paint out. so l ended up throwing the jeans out
    shout or oxi-clean.
If the paint is dryed into them I don't know.

If the paint is still tacky then the BEST thing is Goo Gone. You can get it at Wal-Mart or automotive stores.

    Goo Gone safely removes:

gum, tar, crayon, fresh paint, tree sap, oil and grease, blood, ink, asphalt, scuff marks, tape and tape residue, makeup, lipstick and mascara, adhesives, candle wax, kitchen grease, shoe polish, soap scum, bumper stickers, duct tape, bicycle chain grease

Can someone help me pick a paint color for my living room walls?

My furniture is white and red my carpet is grayish light blue i have white walls now but i want to add some color to my living room and suggestions on what will go with the carpet and sofas? my coffee table and end tables are red oak.Can someone help me pick a paint color for my living room walls?
Use a light blue put pictures of flowers on your walls place a red carpet in front of your sofa or in the middle. Can someone help me pick a paint color for my living room walls?
there are some real nice browny /blacky colors out they would look gr8!
How about putting up some chair rail and below the chair rail put in some shadow boxes, paint above the chair rail a creme color and below the cair rail a darker creme color, all the trim should be gloss white
Don go too dark with white couches.....I think a light sage green or a light kahaki would look best....Just enough color but still light enough for your room to feel open!
I would use some pastels. Do opposing walls same color but the adjacent ones another one. So two colors total, but each wall the same color as the opposing (if you have a square or rectangualar living room). I whatever you pick, I'd pick one a shade of yellow, the other could be a dark shade of red or light grey for instance. Good luck.

How can I learn to spray paint Grafitti art?

I've always been amazed by the street art you find across SF and other places. Some of it is really amazing and beautiful. I would like to try and learn how. Of course, I wouldn't do it on public property. I'm only 16 and I don't want to end up in trouble. I'm thinking I would probably use big paper or wood to spray on. Still, I cannot find where to learn how. I did a search, and all I really got was how to REMOVE the paint. Does anyone know where I can learn to do this? I promise, I won't vandalize someone's property.

Thanks! How can I learn to spray paint Grafitti art?
The best way to learn is hands on. No one can really teach you how to paint, but people can give tips and techniques. To paint well and gain the control requires that you practice. I don't recommend painting large paper. It will seep through. You a solid surface. I'm not insinuating that you paint a building.

When you're 16, an under-aged minor. It's really hard to persist in an activity that everyone will try to discourage you to do. Also it's hard to obtain paint, and if you even hold paint it's considered a crime. If you love art and creation, just try to stay involved with it as much as possible. There are plenty of non-profit organizations that will support you and nourish your skills.

When I was around that age. I painted wooden panels in my backyard. Later I ended up painting secluded spots far away, far from trouble. Some spots were risky. I then snuck out at night to be a little more safe and far from the risk of getting caught. At night I would paint visible spots because it was a lot different in the day time. I faced and embraced the fact that I was an addicted ';bomber';. You don't even want to know how I obtained paint.

Anywhere in the area of graffiti art will invite trouble no matter how legal you'd like to keep it.How can I learn to spray paint Grafitti art?
Get a big piece of cardboard or something and just practice. Any kind of art would take practice. It might be a bit harder to teach yourself, but it's better than never trying.
i dont know but i have some friend who make th paint real shiney by after spraying it catch it on fire then like 4seconds later they beat it with a rag or shirt do get out the fire.makess em freakin good
    you shoul join art classes
graffiti cant be a step by step progress its a self tought thing se it took years for like d*face seen and all the others to get up and known theres only three things i can tell you start copying others work it helps you with the feeling of the letters, start out with a tag and work up till bubble letters then till wildstyle and everything else, and last just do your thing make your own style up and just practice practice practice
When you go to college, head for CCAC: California College of Arts and Crafts. It's great for graffiti-style art.
Hey there, i grew up in the NYC and NJ graffiti scene since i was 16 myself. I was always into art, i didnt go to art school until 21. So the way i started was to just do it. There is no magical pill to get talent or to be creative in art. Just practice everyday, get magazines in art, go to good bookstores and get graff magazines and study. In no time you should be ok if you draw and draw every day. Im a professional artist now.

  • What shade of yellow should I paint my great room?

We have a large great room with Cathedrial ceilings, it actual blends right into the kitchen and we are planning on painting it yellow. But I can't decide which shade. Former professional painter here. Whatever color you choose will reflect off of itself. Choose a paler yellow because it will look more yellow when the entire room is painted. Not blue--that will give a green tint, red will give orange. White will cut some of the brightness and a touch of black will tone it down. And BTW--at least years ago, Sherwin Williams paint sucked the big one. Olympic is a better choice. Even Glidden beats Sherwin Williams. What shade of yellow should I paint my great room?

i know it sounds weird but if it is too bright go lighter. a real lite lemon (pastel ) it will look fresh, clean and sunny. good luck.
    Yellow! Yak!

IF YOU MUST USE YELLOW USE: 6693 - Lily

You don't have to stick to the carded colours. You can say 50% whatever and they'll simply put half the tint in.
Our living room is Squish-Squash by Benjamin Moore. It's a warm yellow, no too pale or too bright. You could get a paint chip and have Sherwin Williams match it.
Try to go with a pale yellow. I am sure Sherwin Williams will have some type of swatches or I do know that at Home Depot they have a computer screen that you can compare colors. Like I said I would go with a very pale yellow. Maybe you can mix some white in with the yellow to make it the color you want. GOOD LUCK!!!
Your great room should be in a warm tone and your kitchen faces the south which would call for a cooler tone, but since you do not have a lot of light there, I would consider it to be the same as a northern room. And, since your great room is the larger area, I would base my decision on that.

I think that the optimistic yellow is too bright even if it showed as a mustard.

I think the Lemon Chiffon is a little too light.

I think the Lily is too light.

    Consider the following:

Sunbeam yellow #0078 or the Preservation yellow #0030.

I like the Solaria and the Benjamin Moore Dijon #193 also.

And yellows are difficult colors to find the right one.

Sherwin Williams has a low VOC and you also do not have to go by what the painter typically uses. It is your home.

You can order some larger samples, get three large ones of each to give you a good idea. Look at them several times a day for a couple of days. Especially in the time of day that you will be using the room the most.

You can also paint a white foam core board a couple of coats and leave it around and move it to different areas.

What colors are in your countertop and in your furniture fabric.

Picture the whole thing together. Yes, once your furniture and artwork is in place, everything will be fine.
Just visited the site, I think that Solaria looks best to fit your needs, I have a yellow family room and my kitchen is also yellow (Benjamin Moore- Dijon). The family room seemed bright at first because it was literally just yellow walls, but once you put up pictures, art, add in your furniture it breaks it up and seems less bright. Also in my experience if your room gets Southern light use cooler colours, so a yellow with cool under tones and for North facing natural light warm colours look best.

Obviously soaking in water might release any Latex residue, but I keep a bottle of White Vinegar handy to soak brushes in. I've renewed many of them I thought were destined for the trash bin.

The condition also manifest more readily in sprayers that do not use a compressed air system.

    Steven Wolf
    run paint thinner through it
Use warm water and let the parts soak, it will come right off, as long as it is latex paint.
My best advice is to find a new hose. If you remove the main clog chances are you will have small particles disturbing your paint gun and causing you more problems than it's worth.

Here's a couple of ideas with a couple of different ';looks';.

Knock off anything loose with a scaper, then applly a thin layer of drywall compound to the surface. Use a texture tool for plaster to create a swirl pattern or let the compund dry and spray on texture.

Knock off the loose stuff, then wallpaper with textured paintable wall paper. You can evenm create the appearance of a tin ceiling this way using metallic paint.

Use tongue and groove wood paneling strips to create a ceiling. Beadboard panels also work.
I like the Realtors answer and in fact I'm doing the same in my house.

Certainly putting up new 1/4 inch drywall would be another way to go.

My concern,,,for you,,, is in the paint substance itself. Without knowing the age of the house, or paint, I'd stop scraping anyway, until I knew it was latex.

    Steven Wolf
Rip out hte dry wall and put fresh it is easier in the long run and will look better.
Don't scrape anyhitng off except the flakes. Paint it with a primer and re-paint. It'll take a couple of coats, but it's easier than trying to scrape excessively.

Approximately how much would it cost to paint/refinish a tub and bathroom?

I just moved into my first house and it has a very ugly black and brown bathroom with a unsightly avocado green bathtub... about how much would it cost to get my tub refinished/painted and paint the bathroom tile white since I've read that if you don't get it professionally done, then the paint will just come off after a few showers. About how much and how long would it take?Approximately how much would it cost to paint/refinish a tub and bathroom?
Now days, what is being installed is an ';insert'; that goes right over the current tub and three wall panels that cover the tile surround walls. Those are made to measure and to fit the tub and brought back to the job and installed in a few hours. The cost is about $400-600 to do such a thing.

No one I know is repainting tubs any more. You can buy a redo kit at MAB Paints for about $75 that requires mixing and spraying of two part epoxy. That is not a job for the homeowner, but for a trained professional and unless you have that skill you cannot do the job.Approximately how much would it cost to paint/refinish a tub and bathroom?
    not sure about the tub

but tile paint is in abundance at diy stores

take your pick ,paint is around 拢12-拢35 depending on size of paint tin
Go to Home Depot and get a tub repair kit, it comes with the paint and, colors if you'd like plus instructions all for $35.00

What would be a good color to paint my family room to match my red sofa?

I have a red sofa and love seat and I want to paint my walls but don't know what color would look good. The sofa isn't bright red. Any links to pictures would be appreciated also, but not necessary. What would be a good color to paint my family room to match my red sofa?
Something light, like Glidden's ';Floral Twist'; would highlight the red furnishings. Then add accents (cushions, window treatments, artwork, etc) in harmonious shades, like eggplant and/or gold. What would be a good color to paint my family room to match my red sofa?
Well it depends on your floor colour, lighting and what mood you want. You could paint it a nice maroonish of a nice green. For ideas watch some designing shows and ask around.
I think red would look nice with white since red is such a bold and bright colour
    Use benjaminmoore.com color viewer to give you ideas of colors. red can go with peach, yellow, beige,gray, but stay on the lighter side so your furniture ';pops';
A cream or off white would be very pretty. Too much red in a room is not good.
With a red couch you have many options. One to avoid would be green but some you may never think of but look great with reds are some peachy orange colors if you like to give the room some flare I would try that. If you want it more subdued I would go with a nice beige. Deep golds go well with those oranges and reds also.
two walls yellow............two walls blue....primary colors............black or white rug
Green. It is the most popular hue of this year, the color green is very diverse, ranging from shades of lush grasses, to crisp celery, to deep olive. Works very well with red furnishings.

Check out some paint manufacturer web sites, such as Behr or Sherwin Williams. They offer tips, on-line color samples, and technology where you can take a digital picture of your room and you can download and change colors. Gives you a realistic sense of how the room will look.

well it depends if you want something light or dark; what look are you trying to achieve? you could go for a light burgundy, or brown; any shade that you like; if you think that those colors are too dark then you also have the option of a differnt much, lighter shade of red; If you take a sample of the color and go to any home depot store, or paint store, you could really ';see'; and compare what matches.
    gray
A light smoky shade of green is lovely -- basil, moss -- or a brighter celery is cheerful. Green, on a color wheel is the direct compliment of red, and makes a wonderful contrast. Then you can place pillows on the sofa that include shades of red as well as the green wall color.
Stick to beige, off white or light brown with black accents on decorations.

    Suggestions:

1] first, avoid other reds. They are very difficult to match.

2] repeat whatever wall color you choose in throw pillows, and use wall. sofa, and a third color for accessories - lamps,

    vases, ornaments, flowerpots, candles/holders

    3] Try:

    white or ivory

    dusty rose [ if sofa is a blue-red ]

    banana or lemon

    mint or sage

    forest or moss

    sky or smoke blue

    teal

    caramel, [ espresso accents ]

    gray, [ black accents ]
    liight brown
    beige to a tan.

    or mint green.
