Is there a special kind of paint to use in a bathroom/shower area?

The shell of my shower/tub is fiberglass but it has painted walls on 3 sides and the ceiling above. The paint that is on now is flaking and falling off and I assume it is do to the fact that it is hot, steamy and moist in the shower area. Is there a paint available on the market that can stand up to these type of conditions and not flake off?Is there a special kind of paint to use in a bathroom/shower area?
Nowadays, the more popular 'type' of paint to use for bathroooms would be called ';Semi-Gloss';...as it's the more traditional choice for kitchens and bathrooms, as well as for woodwork and cabinets - areas that receive lots of hard use and receive frequent scrubbing. Semi-Gloss may also be used in hallways, kids' rooms and family rooms when you want tough, highly washable walls.

Just stay away from using any kind of 'FLAT' paint, as this paint cannot be scrubbed clean like other finishes because it is porous and tends to absorb dirt and grease more than any other type. Therefore, using a 'flat paint' in either kitchens, bathrooms and high-traffic areas is not advised.

Hope this helps? Is there a special kind of paint to use in a bathroom/shower area?
when u paint any wet area u must do the following.

scrape back and lose and flaking paint.

1 undercoat paint

2 coats of semi gloss or gloss enamel (depending how glossy u prefer it)

ask paint shop u wany wash and wear. which means the walls will be easy to clean if dirt, or any markings apprear from everyday use.

u have an option as well.

if u want to patch flaky areas, use a poly filler

1. apply poly filler wait 24 hrs

2. sand

3. apply second coat poly filler wait 24 hrs

4. sand

5. apply a sealer binder to patches

5. then resume as above
The problem was flat paint was used..u will need to scrape all the lose paint..sand the edges off so its smooth. patch them if it's too deep. You will need to prime that bathroom with pro block from sherwin williams..then use a eg shell for a finish coat. this will solve the problem and hold up to all the steam and humidity. I'm a union painter...18 yrs good luck
