We used this spray I think it was called ZIF, either that or ZIP... anyway, comes in a spray bottle, I sprayed it on the wallpaper border, and I mean I SOAKED IT!, then came back twenty minutes later, and just peeled the wallpaper off, most of it came off in one big strip. I went again once over soaking anything that hung around, and left it for twenty minutes, I didn't have to do ANY WORK, and it didn't damage the walls at all either...
Good LuckHow to remove wallpaper without removing paint beneath?
We did this to my room a few months ago. Get a bucket of warm water and some wash cloths. Soak the wash cloths and wipe the wall paper. Peel it off with your nails. Takes a while, but works really well.
Some wallpaper is difficult to remove with out damaging the wall beneath. Buy only a strippable vinyl wallpaper, as it is stronger when it needs to be removed. The paper backing will always have to be scrubbed off as it just peels away form the decorated vinyl..Also, there is a pre-wallpaper sealing fibrous stuff...(I cant remember the name of it just the application and how much better the wallpaper went onto our walls) This protects the wall beneath. It goes up before the wallpaper with wallpaper paste. Let dry and cure, the do the wallpaper.
If the landlord was really smart he painted the walls with something durable like Semi-gloss Acrylic Paint....this is a very durable, washable paint, and you may only have to wash it really well to get the wallpaper paste off before you move out.
Also, I would ask the landlord, first if he would consider allowing you to do the wallpaper....if yes, get it in writing. Protect yourself from the get go.......
