How can I remove layers of old paint and caulking from windows?

My new rental (house is in foreclosure) has layers of old paint and weather sealant on the metal trim of the windows. Does anyone know a way to remove all those years of painted on glass? How can I remove layers of old paint and caulking from windows?
the best way is a good quality paint stripper nitromors is by far the best, generally a good rub down followed by an under coat then your top coat is all that is neededHow can I remove layers of old paint and caulking from windows?
I tried using multi layered paint stripper with no luck. One of my friends recommended using a heat gun. Never thought of that before and went to the local hardware store and bought one for $30.00 with an optional $6.00 glass protector kit. Almost the same price as the stripper. It worked like a charm! All you have to do is hold the heat gun up to the paint until it begins to bubble. Then use a paint scrapper and scrap it down to the original wood.
You Can use a razor blade to get it off the glass. You can also remove paint from the frame with a product called Goof Off. If it is oil base paint try acetone. You might scrape off large globes from the frames being careful not to damage the frames. Course steel wool will take of thin layers of paint.

Sounds like a lot of work. Good luck
Acetone and a razor blade will deal with just about everything, if not, get a stronger solvent like xylene. The only downsides are the fumes are flammable and not to good for higher brain function. The liquids will evaporate extremely fast as well as eat right through plastics and other polymers, metal and glass are safe though. It's a good idea to do the work with chemical resistant gloves as well due to carcinogenic properties after repeated exposure as well as the capacity to suck moisture from and irritate skin.

What is the difference between custom decals and a complete custom paint job on a car?

What is the difference? PLease explain.

What is the price difference?

How long do decals last? What is the difference between custom decals and a complete custom paint job on a car?
decals are typically vinyl stickers that are put on the car, paint is well painted. What is the difference between custom decals and a complete custom paint job on a car?
Decals=company stickers

Vinyls=larger sheets of stickers

Vinyls will give a custom paint job look. And when you get tired of the look you can just peel it off and put a new one on. You can spend probably up to $1000 on livery but that's considered ';ricey'; if it doesn't really go with the car. Same goes for decals. Personally, if I don't earn money from the company, their sticker doesn't go on my car. They can last for up to 5 years on a daily driver before they start looking like crap

Custom paint jobs are expensive. A high quality job that will last and is done properly will cost a minimum of $2000 from a professional shop. However, it will look way better and last the life of the vehicle.

What gives the smoothest top coat of paint?

I have two base coats of paint applied in my living room but I see there are still some brush lines in the paint. I would like a perfectly smooth paint job with no lines and I only have time for one final top coat. What type of tool(brush, roller, shake painter) will give me the best finish. And I don't have a sprayer so that's not an option. What gives the smoothest top coat of paint?
A smooth roller. One with no texture at all. If you had used an alkyd paint, you would not have had any lines. It is a ';self-leveling'; kind of paint that resists leaving any brush or roller marks. What gives the smoothest top coat of paint?
A fuzzy roller. Ask at your hardware store which is best. I would get the fuzziest for this project, but I like my rollers very fuzzy.
The newest trend is to finish your walls with Varathane based paints.
rollers are always best...the length of the nap determines the smoothness of the finish
Since the brush marks are already there, you are likely to see them after your next coat of paint. The glossier the paint the more you will be able to see those imperfections. Also, the imperfections are more evident when the line of site is near parallel to the wall. So, if the usual line of site is perpendicular to the wall, then they will go unnoticed, even by you. Besides, how far away do you have to be to notice those brush marks yourself? If you have to hunt for them, then don't stress about it because *no one* will notice.

My suggestion -- roller the final coat %26amp; perhaps drop the sheen down a notch.

Cheers!
i am not sure about paint but i have found that the sponge thing on a handle (sorry not sure of name),left the best finish and less mess hope this helps.
I heard Behr is really good and probably the best one so you might want to consider that
I very into DIY and i tend to use those paintbrushes with plastic bristles which you can get in the pound shops!

They give an even coat and the brush fibres don't end up on the walls when you are finished!

Check out this link here to give you an idea:

Try the 7 pk,these are better than the 10pk,they are crap!

P.S

I would suggest that you do two coats of paint for you're final result gives it a better finish!

Where can i find cheap but quality paint?

We would like to paint all of the walls in our new home. Where is the best place to find affordable paint at a good quality?Where can i find cheap but quality paint?
We painted our house top to bottom a few years ago and the cheapest but seems like the BEST paint we have ever bought was from The Home Depot, Brand was Glidden Paints. I wish we knew this earlier - we only painted 2 rooms using this brand and believe me, it IS a better quality paint than Sico, Behr and Benjamin Moore House Paints. Wish I knew about it earlier - we would of saved a ton of money!!

TRUST ME - It's WORTH it!!!! - Quality is incredible and you really don't have to put on a second coat - the thickness and covering is awesome!

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!Where can i find cheap but quality paint?
Sears would be a good place I get it from there all the time.
I would suggest Walmart. They have quality paint at a much cheaper price. They can also mix the colors to suit you.
The Lowes stores that I have been to have oops paint. That is paint mixed for someone that didn't like it that is marked down to around $10./gal. This could be their brand or a higher brand. I buy them and sometimes mix to get another color. I never buy full price unless I want a special color.
I would sat go to ace hardware or walmart.
Wal-Mart, where else?
Hang out at Home Depot or Lowes and wait for returns. Usually, they add some color to the return so people don't return and then rebuy paint on purpose. If you develop a nice relationship with the Associate doing the recoloring, they may text you to let you know a usable color has come in (possibly...I have never asked, this was just suggested by a friend) or (better chance) hang out by the return department and look at the colors. They put a dot on the lid so you can tell. A down-at-the-heels friend painted an entire house this way once, and it looked great!

This paint will cost you less than half price.
Behr Paint at Home Depot works very well! If you paint properly you are gauranteed to only need one coat! Behr paint is very true to theirs colors as well!
Wal-Mart paint is just fine, and about half the price of what you'd pay at Home Depot or somewhere similar.

How do I know which colour paint should I use for my bathroom?

I have had my bathroom pale aqua green for 10 yrs, the colour was chosen to ease my stress levels. I have been wondering if the colour aqua-green may have confused my vision when I apply make-up on, whether it was too much or the tones didn't blend properly. Do you think pale blue will be better, since I love dolphins and tried to find the right shower curtain with dolphins including a nice shade of blue (preferrably pale bluish) Landlords are picky. Another note, I am willing to try for a different colour--pale beige, pale tan??

I did not know whether this question can benefit in answers in here or in Beauty, well it's got my bathroom colour to paint, and the tone of my makeup.... HELP!

Suggestions pls %26amp; Thanks! How do I know which colour paint should I use for my bathroom?
Hi Quin

That is a really great question and I feel much better now knowing someone else has asked it! I too noticed my makeup would be ';off'; after putting it on in my bathroom (mine was painted a pale blue) so I finally re-painted it.

I went with a very pale rosy peach, only on a very bright day could you tell it was ';pinkish'; unless you looked at the light switches or the base boards. All of these were white. It sets up a very nice glow in the bathroom, doesn't interfere with the colors in your make up and is easily matchable to any decor you may want to do. Mine is done in an old fashioned almost victorian look but the color makes it easy to do anything with!

Best of luck and have some fun with it!How do I know which colour paint should I use for my bathroom?
I did one of my bathrooms in blue, yellow and white wallpaper and decorated it with seashells, a lighthouse statue, a picture of the ocean and made it a beach bathroom...since you like dolphins, you could probably do this also.
I have had many differently colored bathrooms and I have found the best color is white. You can then put up some low voltage full spectrum lights and the white will be so reflective, you'll get the most natural accurate light for dolling up your face in. It will also match nicely any existing fixtures, or tiles, is landlord friendly, and will bring out the colors in your dolphin accents.

  • What's the best color to paint the walls of a home theatre?

The room is 16X26 with 11 foot ceilings. We were thinking of a purple with black trim. The ceiling is vaulted so should I paint it the same as the walls? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! What's the best color to paint the walls of a home theatre?
Everyone I know has a darker ceiling.

Deep purple walls %26amp; black ceiling.

Try calling a home theatre place to find what colors would be best. What's the best color to paint the walls of a home theatre?
sounds good...or dark dark read....like the curtains in an old theatre.
I think it sounds great.. with the exception of the ceiling.... i would go a shade or 2 lighter in the same colour, or you might ';loose'; your ceiling.

    Best of Luck
That sounds like an excellent choice!

I think that I would paint a dark color if I use it only for viewing.

If the room is going to be used for other purposes, I would consider a lighter color!
As an avid home theater buff, my first reaction is that the acoustics of your theater will be terrible! I recommend that you place diffusers on the walls and potentially on the ceiling to prevent sound reflections. Particularly the back wall.

You can get help with your acoustics at http://www.marktaw.com/recording/Acousti鈥?/a>

The colors you have chosen for the walls are good - the darker the better. The Ceiling can be a lighter color to give the room some contrast as long as the ceiling is not in the sight lines to the screen. Be sure to use flat paints to reduce reflectivity.

I painted my walls Hancock Grey from Benjamin Moore, which is a dark grey/green. We used Dorset Gold also from BM on the ceiling. The gold is a color that we used in the hallway leading to the theater, so it provided a smooth transition into the large room.

    Good luck!
I would use flat or eggshell paint so you get as little reflection as possible. (It's also usually cheaper!) Diffusers work well also. Fabric panels for the walls would be even better so you don't get sound deflection. If this is out of your budget you can just paint for now and add panels as your budget allows.
Dark colors are probably best. I suggest a Forest green if you like green, Burgundy if you like reds, or a navy blue if you like blue. Trim each color with a black and it will look great. Good Luck.

What is the best way to paint stripes in a room??

I am painting my room and one wall is going to have stripes. I need some tips on how to make it easier. What is the best way to paint stripes in a room??
I painted my kitchen with stripes. First I painted the entire area with the lighter of the colors. Then I measured and taped off the area for the stripes, and then painted the darker color.

Make sure you use the right tape and double check that the sides of the tape that are touching the edge to be painted are well attached to the wall.

Good luck. What is the best way to paint stripes in a room??
Put the tape against cotton jeans, to make sure that it wont ';take the paint'; off that was just painted...lessens the stickiness of the tape.

    I wish you well..

Tape it (your stripes) with blue tape and paint, but gently pull the tape off when your paint is still alittle wet. go to diy website, very informative
How wide do you want the stripes? One way may be to paint the wall totally one colour, then use masking tape for clean straight lines over painted with the second colour
